The first one is the availability of good quality and value for money. Cheap, often throw away curtains are always unsightly and give the room an unattractive appearance. But if this means opening up the room, this may not be practical, especially if you have a large family. So another option is to get curtains that are narrow enough to keep out some light but are wide enough to let in enough.
This is very similar to the method of opening the window and this is called being “foggy”. The top part of the curtain is open to let in the light but the bottom part is kept shut to prevent getting foggy. This technique is still sometimes used today but more often than not the curtains are made of thicker materials and these look much nicer.
Cords can be purchased in various styles. The first are usually narrow in design, so they tend to be more comfortable. They will also go with a range of designs and colors making them ideal for the more modern homes.
Over time these will become less comfortable, and if they are not high quality fabrics they will get a grey color and fade or they will become scratchy and need re-wetting every few months. If you have inherited a vintage looking curtains then you may consider a look at linen as this is a much better fabric for them.
There are some other reasons to buy curtains such as the fact that they stop small children playing in the room. Children do this as they are afraid of the darkness and will happily spend the time using the TV or just going to the loo.
